What are the advantages and disadvantages of an internal wastegate?
Well I was asking the question in more of an abstract sense as how it would apply to any turbo. I noticed that many of the smaller turbos have internal wastegates and was wondering why.
The only advantage I could think of for the internal wastegate would be that it might save a little physical space.

But you tend to loose control of boost once you start getting into higher power levels. (boost creep)
this past weekend a tuned a 16G on a DSM internal gate. and it made 9psi and creeped to 15 and there is nothing you can do. to prevent this.
Thanks, that is what I wanted to know. So I will avoid anything with an internal gate. That is what I was planning anyway. I wanted to be sure there wasn't some hidden advantage to the internal gate that I didn't know about.
Internal wastegates would save space, less hot metal parts in the engine bay, easier pipe routing, and cheaper. In terms of performance and functionaility, external wastegates will be superior in every way.
