Radiator fan not coming on (searched)
ok i have a 93 integra 1.8. The radiator fan isnt coming on. We changed out the thermostat and radiator cap. It dosnt seem to overheat but the system builds up a lot of pressure and the coolant starts to overflow in the reservoir tank. i jumped the thermostat fan switch connector and the fan kicks on. so i figured it was a bad switch. I go and buy one and still the fan dosnt come on. what can be the problem????
when driving the temp gauge dosnt go over half way. it stays in between 1/4 and half but when the car is turned off the gauge goes to half. also when the car is off the condenser fan comes on

I replaced the one in the houseing. i replaced it and the fans wouldnt come on so i thoughtt that the one i bought was faulty so then i exchanged it and still no luck with the fan
i have a 93 integra as well and i had the same problem so i had to replace the relay or switch i forgot but its right there next to the battery inside the black rubber cover and i replaced that and my fan worked i also checked my wires for the fan connections and red did them just to be sure cause i wired my fan to my battery to see if it works and it worked so yea...

heres a pic of mine it should be in the same place as my '98. its the thing right near the radiator hose with the 2 wires on the back on the left side of the head

Yupz, had the same problem when I bought the car, guy rigged it on with key power. I had to rewire, and connect the sensir, and voila. fans kicked without needing to jumper, or bypass anything
ok to check if ur fan works which u said it obviously does get the fan wires that are going straight to the fans motor and wire them to the car battery if the fan turns on the fan is good..check the little black thing i think its called the relay its locatd by the battery and its bolted to the radiator support...that is what i had to replace and check ur wires make sure they are connected right..if not ur thermostat could be the case integratypeRs posted up a link of a picture of the thermo that could be out too bro
good luck
good luck
i just replaced the thermostat and i havent checked the relay.. the problem is the car is in vegas and now im in L.A so ima have to walk my lil bro through the process since its his car.. ima tell him to check the relay and then i will get back to you guys
ok so a few updates.. my bro checked the relay and it works.. also he failed to mention that the fan comes on when he turns on the ac.. i think he said both but i would have to ask him again just to make sure.. any other thoughts on what this might be??
i doubt both fans turns on when the a/c is turned on. its most likely the temp switch on the housing. sometimes w/ aftermarket sensors the stock connectors dont have good connections to the aftermarket sensor. check that. tell him to run the car at idle with a/c off and see if tha fans come on.

so u think its the damn aftermarket sensor???? we hcanged it out twice.. we got em from autozone.. i've bought sensors frm autozone b4 and they seam to work fine.. but maybe ur right i dont kno.. When the car is in idle the fans dont come on.. thats the problem the fan dosnt come on but when we jump the connector that goes to the thermo housing it works.. so when the car is in idle with the AC off the fan does not come on. Smoke just starts to come out from the resovoir. once we turn it off the condenser fan comes on and stays on.
This sounds unorthodox, but you might actually just have a clog in your coolant system. Depending on where it is, it may be the reason you're not getting a response from the coolant fan and are experiencing excessive overflow. How long has it been since you've had your coolant system flushed?
** If that's not it, I'd make an educated guess and say that your thermostat is rated at a lower temperature than your fan switch, and it's cooling off before your fan has the ability to turn on - which could also explain why you're building up so much pressure.

PS, your A/C fan can trigger your coolant fan because it uses readings from the engine temperature sensor (which is different from your coolant temp switch) because if your engine is already running marginally hot and you engage the A/C compressor, you'll naturally creating more work on the motor & therefore the A/C system compensates by turning on the coolant fan.
Make sure your thermostat is rated 90 degrees and that you've had a coolant flush in the last 50,000 miles before you pay for unnecessary electrical diagnostics.

Oh, ha - and make sure you bleed the coolant system to get out the air bubbles - that's a guaranteed way to cause high pressure & bad readings, as well as a good way to destroy your coolant temp switch & sensor. The bleeder valve is normally right under the front left side of the valve cover near the main coolant hose. All this stuff is in the manual.
