Default JRSC need rebuild?

Nice to see that the JRSC discussion is alive and well. I think it might be the only one left!

I need help from the JRSC guru's, I've tried to search but it didn't help. My GSR has been supercharged for about 7 years now (about 130,000kms). I haven't had any trouble with it until lately. I've been having some s/c belt slippage for the past say year or so but I pretty much ignored it as I truly didn't push my car very often. It started getting worse so I had all my belts replaced this summer. Then about a month later, my s/c belt broke because my s/c tensioner seized. I had a new one installed and everything was great! That was 3 months ago, and now my belt broke again. The shop I take it to says the s/c tensioner was seized again. They talked to the guys at Moss/Jackson Racing and they said that the blower needed to be rebuilt! The blower looks fine to me and the guys at the shop. Nothing seems wrong with it.

I'm kinda skeptical about the rebuild...I don't understand how that could cause my tensioner to seize. My guess would be that they have just been tightening the belt too much.

What do you guys think? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

if the tensioner is seizing all the time then the blower isn't the issue...look in to why the tensioner keeps seizing, possible over tight.....

I've had mine for a long time with no issues...just belts every 3-4 months, but I'm running 10psi

That's kinda what I thought. I wanted to make sure I wasn't out to lunch with that thought.
If the tensioner is seizing it should be a tensioner problem and not a blower problem!

3-4 months? I am at 9psi with a alternator stepper pulley. Why do you think you have to change belts that often?

Anyone know if there is anywhere else that I can get this idler pulley from other than Moss? I'm having some serious trouble getting one from them and was wondering if there is an alternative? Is it a special Moss item or is it just a generic 2" nylon idler pulley? Does NAPA carry them?

Thanks and merry Christmas

I have read that belt issues come mostly from alignment. Like most serpentine setups, alignment is the key to belt life. In the massive JRSC thread in the forced induction section, there is some talk about this.

From what I read, the fix is to shim the alternator for alignment. I have no personal experience with this, though I do have a JRSC sitting in my garage. I am still gathering parts for my swap and have not yet used it. I would recommend calling LHT. They have a lot of experience with JRSC's and could probably give you the specifics of a resolution.

Excellent! Thanks for this info. I'll give LHT a call.

I don't know if my problem is really the belt or the idler pulley. I think I got a faulty idler pulley (if that is even possible) or something because I've been supercharged for like 7+ years with no problems until an idler pulley crapped out on me a couple months ago and now a second one seized.

Thanks though, I'll definitely give them a call and see if they have any ideas. I've waited literally a month for a new idler pulley. Sent one by regular UPS and overnight expressed the next but I haven't seen it yet. Not sure if it's a UPS problem or a Moss problem but either way I need my car back ASAP. This is getting ridiculous.

It's been a good run. I've been extremely happy with the JRSC. I literally only had to change belts a couple of times during those years. That is until I started having these issues with the s/c idler pulley. That said, I've never really been too hard on my car. I haven't done any sort of racing for like 5 years. Just a daily driver.
