the grill looks different or is it different to the point that you need a 99si hood and bumper in order to fit?

You don't need a new hood, just the grill is different and the lip is an addition to the regular bumper.

Let's just all post the answer over and over again after it has been said the first 2-3 times.

The lip came standard on the SI, was an option on other trims.
Besides that and the grill everything else is identical.

There is a thread showing all the differences too. It's in the FAQ. I made it.

Coupes and hatches have one type of upper grille (color matched trim with two fins). Sedans have another type of upper grille (chrome trim and three fins). The Si has a color matched trim and mesh inner section with a removable "H". The '99-'00 Type R grille is similar, but I understand it has a different number of holes in the mesh. All these grilles will fit any '99-'00 Civic.

The front lip was standard on the Si, but optional on all other coupe trims in the US. This is the same lip found on the '99-'00 type Civic Type Rs. It will fit all '99-'00 Civics though.

The bumper, hood, fenders and headlights are the same on all US '99-'00 Civic models.
