Default crank pulley just falls off wtf?

will i was driving my 95 gsr home. and on the way home i hear a loud squeaking noise, since i was almost home i figured i keep driving. right b4 i reach da drive way my powersteering stop working and the battery signal on gauge cluster was lite up. i poped my hood and a lil smoke was on the side where the belts are, i look took a better look and seem my pulley tangling. it didnt fall off because the ac, powersteering, alternator belt was holding it. i was wondering why would it fall off? and how do i put it back on?. i have never messed with the bottom end or anything in the motor just headers and exhaust.

sounds like the tensioner died. see if the belt is holding tension. and then obviously check the bolt that holds the pulley in, which should be right in the middle.

That has nothing to do with the tensioner, the tensioner is on the timing belt. Sounds like someone didn't have the crank pulley bold in tight.

yeah make sure the pulley is tight so it wont fall off. take the starter out and put a flat head on the flywheel and tighten it good.

a screwdriver isnt going to hold it enough... your supposed to torque the crank pulley bolt to 130 ft/lbs

ahah that is some funny ****....u know i had a buddy that bought a single cam motor from some kid for $75. we swaped it in and took it for a test ride. it ran like a champ we decided to take it on the highway. it was running good until the same thing that happen to you. we pulled out on the side of the high way and popped his hood. his crank pulley came of cause i think the kid that sold it to him messed around with it. thats what happen when you buy a $75 dollar motor aha...

but anyways.. first u need to find the (19mm) crank shaft bolt and the little key that holds the pulley to the crankshaft..it looks like a the key that holds your cam gear to your cam shaft so it will spin at the same time..if that didn't fall out of the pulley then you should be ok. its pretty price for these little suckers. once you have all the parts it is ez to slap it back on. make sure your timing belt is still tight, then set the key back in the spot, put on your pulley, put on the bolt with the washer and make sure you torque it down about 130-150ft/lbs or just make sure it is really fu<ken tight!... the bad thing is that when your torque it down u will need something to hold the crank shaft from spinning .. u need to have a moroso crank pulley holder or go to sears and buy a plummer's pipe wrench, it looks like a wrench but with a chain on it soo u can wrap it around your pulley and it won't spin...u dont have to but u should DTC your motor b4 start...

Autozone has the crank pulley tool as a loan-a-tool. Around $40 to use it and get money when take it back.
