whine @ neutral or driving
annoying low pitched whine coming from engine bay and gets louder on acceleration,
upon research it seems its alternator related (also my batt light lights up very faintly @ rpms below 1000)
so is it the belt or the alternator/puller itself?

sounds like a wheel bearing...just my .02
I'm not sure how a belt would make such a noise...but you could try tightening the belt by losening the adjustment bolts and using a pry bar till its reasonably tight. Do you hear the noise while the car isn't in motion?

yeah when the car is parked it still makes the noise and increases as i rev up
if manual tranny its your throwout bearing, does it sound like chirping? press the clutch in and see if it stops. if yes to any of those questions its the throwout bearing.
its auto, im pretty sure it has nothing to do with the tranny, seems to be coming from the right side of the head (where the belts are) and the batt light has started to come on faintly under 1000rpm on the cluster
i deflected the belt with my hand its seems pretty tight (not loose)

To the op the alt belt could be going bad or the alt bearing is going out. Either one could cause the problem you are having.
you can do 2 things.
1. use a long screw driver with the handle butt against your ear. Put the tip end against where you think the noise is coming from. the sound will transmit through the screw driver to your ear.
2. take all of the accessary belts off and spin each pulley to feel/hear the bearings.
once you find the problem be it bearing related, replace the tensioner too.

This is no longer relivent to the post other then the fact that you have your info wrong. If you push the clutch in and the noise goes away then the input shaft bearing is going out. If the noise starts as the clutch is pushed in then the throw out bearing is going bad.

I have only had REAL mechanics tell me it was my throwout bearing and after my clutch job my chirping noise went away as well. If you can't teach keep it to yourself
2)I am not eliminating the input shaft as the problem, im just going by my experience with the noise problem i had.
3) This was very relevant in trying to diagnosis noise in an engine bay without the location known and or thee op's knowledge level. since the location of noise is near the head near the accessory belts we can eliminate these two suggestions as the problem.
4) Chill out have acouple drinks and enjoy your day!
