Default Insurance trying to screw me over

So, I got rear ended the other week. Got a few estimates and the damages were over 3k on my 98 gsr. The insurance adjuster came out to estimate the damages and his estimates were also over 3k. He told me that my car Blue book is worth 5500 and if the dmgs exceed 70% of the value they'll total it. Now the dmges did NOT exceed 70% of car's blue book value and the adjuster is trying to total it and take my car for 5500ish. WTF???!! We ALL know our clean title GS-R's are worth more then blue book.

/RANT

Pics of dmg:

Only REAL visible dmgs are bumper and trunk lid. I might be calling a lawyer, I don't want to total my gs-r =(

Not really. Book value is what your car is worth, no matter what you think you could get for it. It's easy to see in the marketplace forum that many honda/acura guys think their cars are work wayyyy more than they are because of the mods and stuff. A 10 year old honda with over 100k miles isn't worth all that much, sorry to burst your bubble.

If you would rather get the damage fixed instead of totalled out, that's another story, but if you just want more money for your totalled car, you'll be outta luck.

Just let them Total Loss your car, Take the $5K, buy back your car for about $1500, and be happy! You'll have an extra $3,500 to spend on new mods, get laid, or whatever you'd like. Drawback: You'll have to re register the car under a Salvage Title and lose resale value.

if they do total it, just move to a new car. the process in getting the salvage title is a bitch.

Recently, I bashed the front of my Integra...my fault. The insurance company estimated damages at around $3k, and offered me $950 for a 94 LS with a shitty paint job, recently rebuilt motor, and perfect interior and electrics (windows, door locks, etc).
I simply dropped the claim altogether, bought used parts from sites like this one, and fixed the car myself. $300 in parts (bumper, core support, headlights, corners) and I'm driving again; and as far as the insurance company is concerned, the accident never happened. And I didn't have to go to a salvage title. WIN-WIN.

i only see about 1k tops worth of damage. go to junkyard buy bumper and lid for around 200 or way less. and get a 800 paint job you could fix that with as little as 700 and itll look stock. dont mean to flame but damn come on tell them to get real be proactive instead of reactive.

3k to fix that and your complaining? They are pretty much paying you 3k to put a branded title on your car. You could easily get more than 2500 for a salvage 98 gsr, so therfor you would be coming out on top, there is nothing to complain about.

Yes and no. Blue book value is the average value for all cars of that type sold. It does not include some of the subtle difference such as number of owners, cigarette smoking, etc.

It's your decision, they cant force you to give up the car. Trying to negotiate with them, see if they will give you some money so you can fix it yourself...you can get a nice teg for $5500.

a little off topic, but get rid of the DOHC VTEC badge. it's a magnet for thieves.

Is the frame bent? Might not be worth fixing, mine wasn't. I have state farm also their were comparing my car, to ls/gs/rs models which were selling for quite a bit less. I called and complained a lot, had them re do the adjusment and what not. In the end they gave me 7900 and I bought it back for 1400. Then I bought another integra and I have my old car taking up space, lol.

I don't think the frame was bent...i went to couple of shops and they all say "no frame dmg". I also talked to the total loss dept. and they will not total it. I don't want a salvage title car, and I do love my teggy.

Happy thxgiving!
