Default is it ever ok to patch a tire?

I have a 06 r6 raven and just got a brand new dunlop qualifier on the back about 100 miles ago. I was cleaning it up today to prepare it for storage and found a nail in the rear tire. So is my only option replacement?

thanks

Center tread in the meaty part you can patch it. I usually don't do it, but it's perfectly acceptable... specially in the rear.

Do like Schu said. For daily riding it's not so much of a big deal, but if you plan on pushing the tire, say on the track or in the canyon, I'd get a new rear.

Get it properly plugged and patched from the inside and you're fine.

X2/... I have done it. Keep an eye on the tire pressures.

yes its acceptable. i would get it patched from the inside. i had the same situation on my r6. just got a new qualifier tire and it picked up a nail. got it patched from thinside and its still holding well.

ehh i'd just replace it. I'm sure you can patch it but a tire rapidly going flat on a sport bike is no fun

i was riding into work at 230 for an 8 hour shift and a block away i got a nail sized puncture on a 200 mile old tire and plugged it so i could ride home. it hasn't given me any problems since. even checked the psi daily, no leaks.

i would just get another back tire, then patch the bad one and keep it as a back up.

If the hole is in the center of the tire, it should be fine, but on the side then no good.

should be ok. next time, buy tires from cycle gear since they carry a warranty thats fairly cheap that protects you from this sort of stuff.
