Default Whats a good cam for the type-r motor

I am about to get a JDM type-r motor and i want to get a little more power out of this motor. what would you guys suggestions be. i know they dyno around 175 in almost stock form. what have you guys seen that is some what minor that would get me in the 190hp range. i was thinking cams springs and retainers. but i am unsure of the cams. i will be useing hondata for the EMS. Most likey the S300. i seen someone do 189 with a short ram and skunk2 stage one cams and exhaust but for some reason i thought the skunk2 stage ones were pretty much the same as the type-r cams. so i was thinking stage 2's and a short ram with a BPI no cat and exhaust.

thanks for you help

Hey there Jason..Even on some stage 1's with some good bolt ons, you should still get up to the 190 range

what header do you plan on using?.. get tuner stge 2 cams and you will be 4 sure in the 190's with other supporting mods you will be in the low 200whp

What kind of dyno was this?

In its B motor form, my track car was getting 184-185 Dynojet HP with a cheap Hondata and normal (good) bolt ons. SMSP header and 2.5" exhaust, Mugen intake, just normal stuff.

When you start changing cams on the B motors, you're making a commitment to turning and high revving power that you want to make sure you are ready for.

You'll also have to make sure the tuner is good. #3 cylinder develops some hot spots when you go for maximum power, and this is the frequent downfall of highly tuned B motors.

skunk2 stage1 is basically the same as ITR cams, go with the stage2's anything other than that might make it sound lopey. good header, intake, exhaust and tune should be in the 190's no problem

If you can find them --- JUN IIIs were a good cam for B-series with stock internals.

I'm currently using Toda B's on my JDM ITR motor. Idle is a tiny bit lumpy but not too bad (just a periodic lump at idle). Valve train noise is loud though even though i've set the lash to Toda's recommendations (0.2mm on cold).

I hope to get a baseline dyno on this thing sometime in December when i have time off. My motor is pretty much stock other than bolt ons (AEM 3" hybrid CAI, Spoon 421 2.5" collector header, test pipe, WS2 catback) and a 'chipped ECU'.

I'll post up results when i get this done.

In a nutshell, i love the mid-range of these cams. not much for low end, but it has great power for mid to top end.
