Icon3 93 SI wobbly right wheel

my gf has a 93 si prelude,

A. the front passenger wheel randomly wobbles once every few days, but it does it REALLY bad.

B. the brake caliper moves freely on the top side, it slides up and locks the brakes when they're pressed firmly. it has both bolts in (not sure how tight). also a scrubbing noise in the passenger front caliper when the wheels are turned. the brake pads are in like new condition.

C. it makes a single shifting movement when you turn the wheels all the way to the right and start backing up.

there is also no popping noises in the axles.

PLZ! HELP! this seems so dangerous!!

+1

Who did your brakes(like new?)?

Raise the car, take off the wheels and inspect all the bolts, ball joints, axles.. etc.

I recommend getting it towed to a shop if you aren't mechanically inclined.

Default consulting a pro

im consulting honda-tech pro's hehe

well we are not financially inclined ATM, but i am mechanically inclined and have access to all kinds of tools, i was just wondering if anyone had this type of issue before and fixed it.

its just getting really cold where i live (TN) so researching first is a great idea IMO.

i'm gonna take a look at it soon, might be replacing front passenger pieces lol

any INPUT on EXPERIENCES with BB4 PRELUDE axle and suspension on the front end is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Get a friend and jack up the front end. Be sure to block the rear wheels and don't let the steering wheel turn.... and push, push and shake tire as hard as you can... Up, down, left, right, forward, backward.

The car weighs 3000 pounds - you should not be able to move anything other than to turn the wheel on the axle. The wheel and brakes attach to the knuckle... a one foot long crescent shaped thing. There is a ball joint at the top and bottom that typically wear out. The bottom one is cheap to replace, the top ones are a single piece with the control arm and a bit pricey.

Since only one wheel does this, it is probably not the steering - although it could still be the ball joint on the one wheel where the steering connects.

Final thought - if the wheel isn't wobbling, but bouncing instead (like when you hit a bump), then it may be a bad shock absorber. Basically, you will get really bad wheel hopping when you hit a bump. I have a different car like that now with a bad rear gas cylinder.

nothing should be moving at all. Check your struts , if they are blown the tires will just be jumping up and down without any resistance. If its minimal play, you might want to check your upper control arm(A- arm). Sometimes the bushings go bad, so it makes the tire move.

Why not take your other wheel off and compare it? My calipers on my prelude do not move at all. They are on their pretty snug. Re torque your caliper mounting bolts to 80 ft lbs. I believe the smaller bolts are 40 ft lbs. The rotor shouldn't be a big deal if it is screwed on or not as the tire is what holds that on and those screws are not needed.

I would not drive that car and what's more important? In debt 300 dollars to have a pro fix it or being dead? Even if you don't get hurt in an accident, you could hurt or kill someone else.

Not cool to drive around like that.

Icon6 well..

im not just driving around like that?!

it "just happened" and im just getting all the info i can as fast as possible so i know what to do.

anyway, the dute that owned the car b4 us replaced the control arm on that side, and it looks like wood screws are holding it in. . . . . .

i have no idea what the deal is with ppl using wood screws on hondas (if anyone caught my TURBO PRELUDE thread before this site deleted it with unforgiving force), i've found 2 cars with wood screws on it in the last 2 months. weird haha.
