Interesting thought, perhaps the answer to my horrendous idling/super rich issues??!!
As I'm sure you guys know, I've been dealing with a terrible idle on my Civic, basically the car will randomly dump tons of fuel when it wants to, dropping my idle to the near stall point and the car has to fight to stay on. Anyways, while fumbling through the garage yesterday looking for some tools, I came accross my dead MSD 6A sitting in a corner collecting dust. It was then that it dawned on me, these problems started not so long after my MSD blew up on me... hmmmmm.
If you recall, about 1.5 months ago, I over-reved the bejesus out of the little D16 (nearly 9k rpm!
) and my MSD died in the process. This was only about 2 weeks or so after I got the car dyno tuned with the Hondata 2B. So here's my thought..
The car was tuned WITH the MSD in place. Now we know the MSD delivers a stronger/hotter spark, enabling it to more thouroghly burn the fuel in each cylinder, so what if you remove it and resort to a weaker spark. Naturally it's ability to properly burn the fuel would diminish without the aid of the MSD amplifier right? So could it be that my car was setup to run x amount of fuel at idle and low throttle, which now without the MSD is too much for the stock ignition to handle?? Make sense.. or am I pissing into the wind here?

Yea, but I figure the concentration of air is less at idle than anywhere esle, more fuel/less air = more problems for me.
Bleh.. this sucks!

Well, are you sure you are dumping fuel at idle? Not that I question you, just posing a thought. Maybe idle air is being restricted somehow...going bad EACV perhaps? Unplug it at idle and see if it makes a change. Idle should drop with it unplugged.

You'd be surprised how much slower your car will run depending on the weather. My car heak soaks like a beeoch, due to the cramp engine bay, much like any F/I honda is going to. My advice is that if it runs hot while sitting, turn on your heater full blast, and wire up your fans for a manual bypass switch. I don't even bother to race on my car hard when it's terribly hot/humid outside.
Also if you're plugs are being fouled, no matter if your engine is tuned perfect, it's gonna run worse. Fouled plugs prevent your engine from combusting correctly. Clean those things up or get some new ones, see if you can fix your rich idle problem. Maybe try out an MSD ignitoin setup.

<----- Who remembers asking you to try using an MSD ignition setup in your last post
.........Maybe that is or isn't the problem, but MSD should replace you're stuff shouldn't they?[Modified by Speed PHreak, 5:41 PM 8/1/2002]
Yea I already contacted them about fixing my 6A, i'll see what they have to say. In the mean time I'll jut sit here and wonder if my IACV is bad or what..

I'm having the same problem with my hondata turbo'd setup. It sits at 0 rpms at idle and trys to stall (it did it once already). I'm hoping that once I get it tuned, it will be a lot better. Well anyway, do you get big black clouds of crap coming out of your exhaust when you drive it? I do and it's staining my driveway and the back of my car. I have to quick detail it everytime I drive for a prolonged period of time. Can you please let me know if you find out what the problem is?
