Default need help...gettin ready to get a dc2. help guys!!!

ok so this guy wants to trade a dc2 (not sure on year or mileage) that has just been rebuilt with b16 pistons and has an 11:1 comp ratio. he said it was dyno'ed at like 210 hp and has a b16 tranny. here is where the trouble starts...he said that it wont move under its own power. it will roll and start and run but will not move. i first thought axles or clutch. he said it has new axles in it so idk if that is it or not...but he doubts it. he said it was probably the clutch. he said it started out like ticking, then knocking, then just stopped. but it will still go into all the gears.

so my question is...what do you guys think is the problem? is it more likely the clutch or the tranny? and what COULD have happened to the tranny if its that (like stripped gears, etc.)?? and what COULD have happened to the clutch if that is the problem?

TIA...this will be my first teg so im pretty excited.

i would have to guess the clutch. how does the pedal feel? stiff or limp? can you feel the clutch grip at all when you release it with the car running?

You should ask him for the dyno paper to prove that it's actually even making that power because anybody can make that statement. As for the clutch and tranny, I'm not too sure. But push start? Is it a battery issue?

I've never heard of a clutch that was so burned out the car wouldn't move, unless the trans was thoroughly beat on. Rebuilt motor and non-functioning transmission... you better be getting a helluva deal on this car.

I'd turn around and run far away.

...sounds like someone is trying to dump their mess. How nice is the rest of the car? The problem seems more likely to be a transmission if you say it "goes into all gears," but will not move. Does it go into all gears when the engine is running, or when it is off? If you are a knowledgable mechanic, this may be the car for you. If not you should just walk away now before his mess becomes yours. Good luck!

Also...if this car makes 210 hp I'd be very surprised. If you could gain 40 hp (assuming he means crank hp by rebuilding the engine using B16 pistons) everyone would be doing it. There are way more factors than compression ratio when it comes to making power.

well guys im goin to look at it today. the rest of the car is perfect almost. i know everyone could be sayin it makes 210 hp...but he has had it rebuilt and i dont really care about the power. im just wondering what it could be. he said he thinks its just the pressure plate and im hopin it is just the clutch. and i am getting a pretty good deal. any more info or input? anything would help me out.

if it was the clutch im pretty sure it wouldnt be able to go into gear with the car on. When my clutch was out, it wouldnt go into gear or move.

i havent looked at it yet...but he didnt say if it would go into gear while it was running. he just said it would go into gear. lets say it is the tranny...what could have happened?? did the gears get stripped, or the main shaft broken or something like that? any ideas? lol

the clutch is most likely toast. why would you want to buy a car that can have so much potentially wrong with it?

ok so i went and looked at the car. it will pull forward a little then it pops and doesnt go anywhere else. like it goes about 6 inches then you hear a big pop and it stops. im thinkin the axles arent in all the way...and maybe it has the wrong axles for the car. i think im going to get it so i hope i can figure it out. any other ideas since i just said that? thanks guys.
