It serves the exact same purpose as the OEM subframe. I've heard it's very much not worth it. That part was originally designed for cars that don't have subframes in the same sense, then modified for the EM2. It's an answer to a question no one was asking.

the subframe is still a bolt on itself and has engine mounts on it. I think technically adding that might provide some stiffness.

but poly engine mounts would be a better investment

Here's the subframe for reference:

It may provide some stiffness, but it's stiffening a part that's there to stiffen in the first place. It will lower your ground clearance and do next to no good, in all probability.

So no, it's not worth it.

that is apples and oranges. the es engine mounts help with engine movement dampening. the braces help reduce chassis flex and weight transfer under hard cornering. the d3 brace is supposed to pretty good if you research it on ephatch and crsx. it ties a few weak points together. but like the strut bars do for our cars, the neuspeed is more of a "feel" improvement than actuall performance gain with a unibody car.

You're going to be connecting solid mount points to solid mount points, which gives your car a structural integrity improvement level of 0%. You'll also be dragging it across speed bumps and potholes.

Make your own conclusions.

Isn't that what front strut tower braces do?

The firewall relative to the suspension mounting points are in no way an ideal design for ultimate structural rigidity. Considering the amount of chassis flex and sway most front engine, FWD cars display, it's a worthy investment to brace that point of the chassis.

What kind of flex will be generated in the X-frame case? At the very least, on a "properly" setup car, it's a redundant piece of metal work.

There are plenty of redundant pieces on the market. The inner fender brace is another one.
