Default Options for D16Y8 replacement

I have an obd2 EX auto here and the owner toasted the internals. A rebuild would not be my first choice due to the condition of the cylinder walls/valve guides and machine work required.

Thhis thing is an auto and am investigating the possibility of anything else that may be a practical replacement. I had my eye on the jdm d15b, but I don't even know if you can run a jdm ecu for these obd2 datalink emissions tests.

Does anyone have any info or links to the info I'm after? I'm an obd1 guy so a little ignorant in this area.

Have you considered an OBD2 SOHC non Vtec D15B or OBD2 SOHC Non Vtec ZC? You should be able to run both with a stock Y7 ECU, they wont run as well as they would with the correct ECU, but a Y7 should be close enough to work ok. Theres not much else available unfortunately for OBD2 SOHC JDM engines. Although if you look at this link http://sunrisejdmmotors.com/engine_d...p?id=19&page=2 at least one importer is selling Y8s, I'm not sure where they're getting them from though.

^ Word. I had a rod knocking y8 and swaped it for a y7 block with a rebuilt y8 head. Runs good for a single slam. 96 obdII ex 5spd, not auto.

There's a little more to it than that.
