97 hx cvt tranny problem
hey guys im new to the site i just picked up and 97 hx and think i am having tranny problems i drained the fluid and it was BLACK yuck so i need to go to honda and get some cvt the car is jerking when you take off and the rpms rev a little when you get going anyone have any idea what this is if i need a new tranny or maybe a tranny computer. also i read that the trannys dont have a filter is this right?
Try the fluid. It may end up being a band-aid though. The CVT transmissions are not well made and often they fail. If the problem is solved with fluid for now just do that. Have a Honda-Tech (get it ;P) look at it for you and you should be set. If the tranny is bad, look into converting it to manual. Although the CVT mount is different than both the manual tranny and automatic tranny mounts, the conversion can be done.
And I am not sure about the filter question.

i changed the fluid there is a filter in there but it was 70$ 13 a quart was bad engough. but the car is jumping rpms at a low speed enough to jerk the car is this the tranny? or could it just be plugs and wires?
I think TSB 02-003 may be of intrest to you. If you go to your local dealership they should hopefully be able to print you off a copy. The long and short of it is that it looks like one, all or some combination of the following 3 things are bad:
-TCM
-Start Clutch
-Start Clutch control valve
Looks expensive. Its quite possibly more cost effective to swap in a converntional manual transmission.

yeah i have the code print out just not sure how to check it and i dont want to go to the dealer if i keep the car then i am going to just do a auto swap i dont have the time to do a full swap i would love to if i could
Just be aware that the only automatic you can swap in is another HX CVT tranny, nothing else works.
