a vtec controller wont do much considering it wont be able to change the fuel map to go along with the activation point. If your going to go with one of the two I would say fpr... You might would be able to squeeze a horsepower out of one.

We need to know more about your setup to even give a wild guess about that.

Vtec controler wont add any power.
FPR wont add any power eather unless your running lean or rich up top of rev range, But then it will probly kill off the power down low if you try fix that.

Get these things if you havnt already.
intake
exhaust
headers
cam gears
cams
valve springs and retainers
tune

Fuel rail is completely unnecessary for that setup but that's besides the point. What kind of "chipped ecu"? If it has been properly socketed, chipped, and tuned then you don't need a fuel pressure regulator or a vtec controller. But since you're asking about these things I'm assuming it's just some hack "performance" chip off ebay. Get the car tuned properly with a competent tuner , end of story

You are 1 for 5, stop wasting your money on pointless mods so you can actually add power to your car.

Well the 'headers' and the 'racing muffler' can't hurt as long as there isn't stock piping between the two.

It doesn't really help much either though... The only way to make good power with these is either boost or build the internals.

Well I know that; but if you're looking to stay in the realm of bolt-ons there's only so much you can do.

I would hardly call a header a waste of money. Sure if you put on some junker DC sports header or some Ebay special, you're not going to see much. But with a good brand unit (Hytech,SSR, etc...) and a proper tune, you can expect to see double digit whp gains, which is pretty significant coming from a little 1.8L motor. I know these are premium headers that cost quite a bit but the gains are there and no one mentioned anything about a budget.

Bwahahahahaha! A header that costs over $800 for MAYBE 10hp with a tune. You could spend $200 more and get almost 200 more hp with a turbo.

First of all, I'd like to see you build a reliable turbo setup for only $1000 that will still be running with that initial $1000 investment in 2-3 years. Second of all, yeah I think by now everyone is well aware that there is significantly more power to be made via forced induction. Was that the point here? No.

The point was that a header actually can make a difference if you're willing to spend some money and purchase a quality unit. You can sit there and argue all day long but people who want to keep their cars naturally aspirated and are serious about it, will spend the extra money because they know that a 10whp gain is actually quite significant.

I'm so sick of everyone on here just jumping on the turbo bandwagon because it's so cheap to make all this power, blah blah blah. Like I said, everyone already knows that but perhaps some people want to be different and build their car their own way. So take your cheap junkyard turbo dreams and kindly be quiet. /Rant.

back to the OP question you dont need the vtec controller or the FPR but if you do get one the FPR might be more useful in the future but it really isnt necessary at the point where you are.

Yes. Depending on the piping size however, that hp gain will come at tthe cost of lost torque.

Is that a challenge? Lol. I'm sure I could cobble something together from my spare DSM parts. Probably have to spend most of that $1000 on a replacement auto tranny though.

Spend it on a full exhaust. No controllers or bits and pieces. If you've got higher flow runnnin through the muffler or header, it's pointless if it's getting held up on stock piping elsewhere.
