Default Need a distributor for my ITR

Hey guys, I know I haven't posted on here in what seems like forever. I just bought a house, and kinda settled down and stopped goin crazy with the R, but now I've got a problem.

R just hit 109,000 miles and it started studdering while driving then the car died on the highway and I couldn't start it, towed it to a mechanic and it looks like the dizzy is going out, he said I'll need a new one, he priced one out at like $450, but I don't have that kind of cash.

Anyone know of another solution? or a cheaper place to buy the distributor.

It's a 2000 R.

It's a 2000 R.
Try borrowing one from a friend or a member on here. They are like $130. Thats a lot of money if it isn't the problem.

bryan, i have some dizzy knowledge and can help you diagnose the problem.
worst case you could a buy a distributor king for $200. I personally spent way too much and purchased a new coil and ignitor for mine just to keep it all OEM.

if you can get your hands on anyones dizzy the ignitor is all the same. the only difference is how it s mounted to the housing but that all unbolts and you can use any you want.

ignitor or coil is bad. There really is no way to diagnose that. Borough the parts from a friend that has a salvaged distributor and try it out. Then buy that part. It like 90 for the coil and 100 for the ignitor brand new. Or get it used. doesnt really matter.

Just an FYI - and OEM ITR dizzy at full price is about $1100CAD here in Vancouver.

like everyone else said, you can just replace the bits inside and it should be fine again.

I had bought a dizzy from distributor king a year or so ago, and I haven't had any problems with it this far. This is not to say they haven't went down hill since then. Great price, shipping, and service when I delt with them!

lol no man, i'm glad i left that shat-hole known as Burrard Acura.

OP - if you decide to go with a jobber dizzy, try to swap out your OEM o-ring as well. i find the non-OEM dizzy's sometimes leak at the dizzy seal.

Sounds like one of the sensors in the distributor is bad, I had a similar problem with my R.

Then a year later distributor went bad again...

You should test it or get it tested just to make sure, but if you have the money get a new distributor with a lifetime warranty.

I had dizzy problems about 2 years ago and bought a king to replace it. I had problems right when I got it. I ended up taking the guts and almost all of the sensors from my oem rotor to make it work right.

If I had to do it all over again. I would go to the junkyard and find a distributer and swap the sensors until it started working again. Its cheap and still all oem. The dizzy might seem complicated but once you get it apart. Its simple.
