Default How to verify it is in fact my valve stems/seals/guides that need replaced?

What can I do to be 110% sure?

I do not want to drop $300 in labor and another whatever in parts just to have it not stop my car from burning a quart of oil per tank and smoking like crazy after sitting.

Thanks =/

Edit: Also, what parts would I need exactly, and what would be my best bet for cost/reliability.

bad seals would cause the car to smoke upon start up. as for as whats causing it to burn oil. check the compression to make sure the rings arent trashed. and go from there.

I was under the assumption the burning oil was from the oil getting past the vavle seals leaking into the exhaust, then burning off as the exhaust heated up.

compression: 150 - 150 - 145 - 150

The only way to really be sure is to pull the head, and have a reputable machine shop check it out.

I just had the EXACT same problem as you are having now, and it was in fact all 16 valve seals were bad, and my 8 exhaust valve guides were completely bad.
