coming from around the cruise control area in my engine bay while my h22 is off. Can anyone enlighten me as to what this strange noise is? What year car? There are a few things that can buzz - but, if the key is off - I would check out the three relays nrxt to the cruise control. I believe that atleast one is for the radiator fan. I have a toyota that I know the fan can come on with the ignition off. If the coolant temp switch is bad, you could get a buzz or the fan exhibiting strange behavior.

 

Its a 99 base model. Itll do it for like 3-5 secs then fade off.

 

When working on headlights, I found that mine (93) has a vacuum canister hidden in the fender just above and to the front of the driver side front wheel. I had no idea the thing was there - but there is a vacuum line going through the metal right next to the cruise control. In my case, the car was in a minor fender bender and the canister broke loose from the wheel well - no it vibrates and makes noise when the engine is idling.

In your case, maybe it is leaking.
