So I just picked up a 2000 ex accord, how can I tell if it has a factory alarm. It didn't come with a remote but by the lock stick thing it says secruity and blinks. I was just wondering if I just need to buy a remote for it? any help would be great thanks.
roll down the window, lock the doors, then reach in and open the door from the inside latch. If the horn starts beeping and the lights are flashing, it is a high probability there is an alarm system.

Well I think that it has one but it is disabled because the guy that owned the car before me lost the fob, thats why i didn't want to waste money on a fob if it wasn't going to work, so to be sure I wanted to know how you can tell appearnce wise, like where it is located so i can check to see if i have one.
"Anti-Theft Alarm System" was standard on the 2000 EX but I don't know how to operate it (I have a '99 LX, the LX line didn't come with the security system).

Yes, your car has a factory alarm. go ahead and buy the fob. I'm not 100% on the programming procedure, but I've seen it posted numerous places, and sometimes the fobs include a printed copy of the procedure if you buy them on ebay.
Hondadude is right, roll down the window, lock the door, and then open it by reaching in the car. that will set off the alarm. you can shut it off by putting the key in the ignition and turning it to start.
On the EX, it is integrated into the multiplex system, so you will not find a "brain" anywhere under the dash.

Here's the programming instructions for the remote entry but I don't know if it does anything for the alarm system.

A little off topic... but jweller, what do you think of your Mazda3? How is it compared to your Accord? If you could go back in time, would you still buy it? Is the Mazda3 "big enough" for a family of four (two grade-school age kids)? We are sort of in the market for a new car - my Accord ('99 LX, I4, 5-speed) would then be my commuter; we also have a '95 Camry right now with 172,000 miles on it.
