Default external wastegate on greddy 15g?

im thinking of picking up a log mani thats tapped for an external wastegate. is going external worth it on the 15g? if it matters, i had my 15g sent in to get the 19t wheel.

also to do this, is all i need to do is have the wastegate flapper welded shut or is there another way?

just have the flapper tacked shut and not fully welded so it can be ground off if you want to go internal gate again. going external gate is nice because it allows you the use of an external boost controller and lowers the amount of back pressure after the turbo and sounds cool too.

You'd definately want to go external with that turbo if you want to push it any. The only issue is that the turbine is relatively small vs commonly used turbos on Hondas. Honestly you'd have been better off spending cash on a different turbo and selling the 15g off, rather than upgrading it - especially if you get a different manifold.

yeah, i thought about it but i got the 15 for less than 50 bucks. i got quoted 500 for a complete rebuild and the 19t wheel and all machining. i found a ccfab log for 150 bucks. what do you guys think about that? 500 bucks for a pretty much better than new greddy turbo.

what would be the problem using a smallish turbo with an external gate? my goals are 250whp.
