Default New Main and rod bearings need break in?

Just the bearings. No fresh hone or anything. Do they need a break in period, and is it ok for synthetic right away?

Im just getting into the honda scene so i don't know much. But i had a z28, and i put in new rod/main bearings in. I didn't go over 3k rpms til i hit 900 miles and i used synthetic right away aswell. So i would say yes give it some break in time and using synthetic right away should not be a problem..

There is no break in period for bearings, just rings. The rings need to seat against the cylinder wall, but bearings dont have to create a seal with anything. Synthetic from the start is fine.

no, do NOT use synthethic while breaking in your car (rings). any regular motor oil (i use castrol 10-30) to break it in. after 1000 or so miles, its ok to switch. the properities of synthethic oil do not help the rings seal

I don't think anyone was trying to seat the rings, unless that was just a FYI.

kinesistech wasn't referring to using synthetic oil for breaking in the rings....we all know better than that. He was stating thats it OK to use synthetic from the get go for the BEARINGS, as the guy stated in his Q that a hone was not done....just fresh bearings.

well, at least start up and run for about 30 miles with regular motor oil, then change to synthetic after, point being you need to clean out all particles and moly lube from bearings and coat with oil.
