Default Removing the transmission

Hello I have been reading my helms and searching threads on here and I have 1 question when removing the transmission. Once you have removed everything and its time to loosen the upper tranny mount, do I have to have something supporting the engine ? I don't have an engine hoist like it says to use in the helms. I am going to be borrowing my buddys transmission jack, but what do I do about the engine ?

I just throw my front tires under there that they are off the car and a jack under the transmission.

But it depends how high you have your car up.

When I pulled the tranny on my LS to change the clutch we put a floor jack under the engine "just incase" something were to happen. I dont think it really needed it. You could probably use the scissor jack and prop it up on some 2x4's stacked up. We pulled the tranny out by hand and put it back in there by hand, its really not that heavy as long as the axles and shift linkage are off and its drained (dont really see how you could take it off w/o removing all except the shift linkage). Just dont let the engine or trans. go haha, ive always wanted to use one of those. sorry for being immature, but w.e. Are you doin it with floorstands or are you lucky enough to have a lift. I did it on the garage floor with jacks. not nice to the head/back. Hacve fun! corey

Heres the writeup I used as a GUIDLINE for when I did my clutch, but its good infor on how to get your tranny out. http://www.team-integra.net/se...D=963

If it isnt liked to it, go to page 7, thats when he takes the tranny out rather than reading through all the bs about the wires, bolts, stiffeners, etc... Good Luck

Thanks those are some good write ups to accompany my helms. Now I plan on changing the rear engine mount also, once the the transmission is off the car is the rear engine mount just as easy to remove or is it bolted to the engine in any way ?

Well the engine bay does look pretty empty, I'm sure it is much easier to get to with the tranny out. I didnt do the rear mount when I had it out (probably should have though) But I think you had to unbolt it from the trans to get to it, i cant remember very well though. Now is a good time to do it is all I know.

Also another question, in the helms it says when I remove the passenger side radious rod (I have a DA integra) to use new "special bolts" and also new "special bolts" for the rear transmission bracket. Are these dealer only bolts ? and do I have a put in a new spring pin for the the shift linkage ?

I'd just take the whole swap out. Its a lot easier. invest in a cherry picker. Its worth the money. I pulled my engine in and out of my DA 4times during it's restoration!!

Thanks, but no thanks. I do not plan on removing more than I have to.

I honestly dont think yuou should have to replace aany bolts unless you break one. Just make sure all the bolts are torqued to the right specs. Maybe the "Special" bolts they are talking about are the high grade bolts for the mounts and suspension. but you still shouldnt have any trouble. remember to liberrally apply pb blaster or liquid wreng to all the stubborn rusty bolts and invest in a breaker bar. Some of these bolts are a PITA! Good luck
