I have a '99-'00 Si radio in a '98 Civic right now.
I don't know why anyone would want an actual CD player or any sort of deck in the trunk.

I figure out-of-site, out-of-mind!
If you look inside my ride, all you'll *see* is a OEM '98 AM/FM radio/alarm - $25 on Craig's List - and, if you'll pardon the pun, that's the way I want to *keep* it!

I might add... That trunk mount CD Changer was a Honda factory option. It came with the harness, rails, et cetera.
Sooo, I guess you'll have to ask them...

I really haven't paid that much attention to sound equipment - I just want it to rawk my mirrors...

i placed a si cd player on my 96 ex civic b4..i used a adapter that best buy sells which plugs right into the si radio and on the other end it has the wires which you wire up to another 96-98 civic harness and then its just plug and play..its really really easy..when i did this everything worked except the amber lights on the radio,,the only one that turned on was the center one which shows you the time and track ,,etc..

I can't believe it either - but, it's true!
I've been dumping acetone in the tank lately, but it doesn't make much difference.
Actually, it runs better with acetone - I *think* it increases the octane - but the FE increase is spotty.
I'll get 43mpg on one tank, then a couple of tanks at 41mpg, then another at 43... Weird stuff!

It makes as much sense as me coming in and saying, "Put it under the seat. That's where my stock sub is. It came with the harness, etc. So I guess you'd have to ask Honda about it."
The amount both of those make in the context of this thread is... none.
Anyway though, the OP wants to know about installing a '99-'00 CD PLAYER into a '98 Civic. In order to play CDs off of this, be able to adjust the volume, change CDs, etc., I imagine he will enjoy the "convenience" of it being in the dash, where it will still look like a stock CD player.

The stock radio can be hid behind the dash, but after time it became too much of a hassle to me and I just got rid of it. You can have keyless added aftermarket.
I'm giving you all the information. I've done it before. I have it currently in my '98 Civic EX. I have the exact set up you want in the exact car you have. It's not difficult.

I've done it befor had it in the bottom next to the cup holder...like some have said get a 99 civic cdplayer wire harness from a junk yard splice it into a 96-98 after market plug from autozone or w.e and it should work you can also call honda if you need the cd player code they should be able to get it for you
