Default Caliper slider pins?

I am doing a bake job on my 1998 Honda Accord coupe and it is time to reassemble the calipers onto the caliper mounting bracket and I noticed that the caliper slider pins are different on pin has a small rubber on the end of it and the other doesn't.

Of course since I did not notice this difference when taken it apart I did not keep track of which pin went where?

Does anyone know if the pin with the small rubber at the end goes on the top or bottom?

Thanks

I think it goes on the top. Use this link and enter your car info. to see the brake parts illustration, and you'll see it.

Both pins should have a rubber boot.

Depending which set-up you've got, the tapered (smaller) one goes on top.

If we are talking about the same thing, there are 2 pins. Each about 3" in length. They usually have a marking on the head of the pin. L & G. L goes in the lower holes...and you can guess where the G goes.

One other quick question, anyone know what those shims on the the brake pads do? they are numbers 10, 11 and 12 on the bottom diagram?

Noise Control (Believe it or not). Some technicians substitute Blue Elephant Snot (Disc Brake Quiet), but the oem setup uses shims

Really noise control hey!

So if I am using after market pads should I not use the shims? I am installing Hawk Performance pads with Power Slot rotors. Would it be better to just lube up the pads instead?

thanks

Which ever floats your boat.
Most non-OEM and Performance pads don't come with shims....... so

Blue Elephant Snot.....
