Default wheel vibration

I have this on my ITR when i hit around 80 mph or so. i am going to have the wheels balanced again this weekend but if that has no effect then what other signs should i look for do you think? could road surface make this happen? It doesn't do it every time i am at 80mph but at least 6 out of 10 times it seems like. Not a violent vibration but one that gets annoying. Thanks

Sounds like your alignment is off.

Get it aligned then let us know if the problem persists.

what kind of wheel/ tyre?

I had the same problem when I had 2mm spacers on my volks to clear the calipers. As soon as I was able to ditch the spacers, no more vibration.

Another cause could be unevenly torqued lug nuts.

I torqued the lugnuts personally. Know that isn't the cause.

I also had the car aligned less than 4 months ago. I am running zero toe in the rear and i think 1/16th total toe out in the front if i am remembering correctly.

Stock wheels. Azenis for tires 205/50/15

I've got a little bit of a vibration around 80 mph as well.
How many miles on the drivetrain/car?

I'm thinking wheel bearings (right hand side particularly in my case), or there's something up with the axles.

I'd had the wheels rebalanced, with no lessening of the vibration.

And you're trying to go 180?

I think at 180 your car would rattle itself to pieces.

My new Quaife arrived the other day.
The vibration abates/is non-existant above the 80 mph mark (maybe it will show up again @160).
Steve will be rebuilding the drivetrain/hubs with the engine/turbo install.
New Mugen Engine mounts are in my posession.

It's still tough to find ZR rated tires in 205/50/15's.
Oh, I'll settle for 160-165.

I'm sure I missed a few things... Ed

The car has 33,xxx miles on it. Only a one day driving school track event. I keep her in great shape. I am thinking that maybe on certain roads it is the surface. Not sure.

It's somewhat odd that it happens for both of us @ 80.
My car's got 117 K miles on it, on the original axles.

Try rotating the wheels front to rear and see if it makes a difference.

i did that this past weekend but it seems like it is still there. i have only driven the car a few times but will drive it more here shortly to see if it is indeed still there as much as it was before i rotated the tires.

Yeah, it's not really bad ... just noticable and annoying (to us perfectionists).

That happens to me also @80-90. I think it is my wheels because they weren't balanced correctly. They only have weights in the rear (inside) of the wheel. I have another set of R wheels with the factory balanced method front and rear (inside outside) weights. I think last time i changed them it fixed the problem, but I will have to try again to verify.

This happens to me as well....especially over the 100 mark.

Many roads have little variations and imperfections in them, and combining that with a sportier (read: stiffer) tire will allow the tire to follow these and cause a slight vibration.

Alignment is one thing, but there isn't such a thing as a smooth ride when you combine tires/suspension/road.
