Basic(But Good) Sound System
Oh this is the easiest question ever! Go to Walmart and ask a pro. J/K.
There are price differences between even "basic" car stereo setups. So, what's the Make and Model of car? What do you want it for, loud, clarity? How much do you want to invest? Are you going to build and install it yourself? Do you have any of it yet, like a cd player? If so what are the model numbers?

Really it's all based on a dollar amount.
A lot of people go the least expensive route and use the headunit to power the door and dash speakers, then buy an amp, sub, and wiring.--- 4 coaxial speakers, $150. --- Sub, wiring, box, amp, $350. If you do not want to spend over $500 then you can buy used components. They're usually about half the price of new and you can get better equipment because of that. I can suggest stuff all day long but you have to set a max dollar amount before hand. If you want to get the most out of your listening experience then first buy the interior speakers, wiring, and an amp to power. Spend about $500 on this and you have a great start. Then add the sub later. That's just my preference maybe not yours.

Find a good installer/bay and go from there. You can learn a lot from someone when they go out to your vehicle, ask them what they would do if it where there car (within the budget allowed), you should get a honest answer.
A good installer can make average gear sound great with the proper install, but you can spend thousands and it will sound horrible if the install is done improperly.

at this point at the most right now that im willing to spend since i just bought my car is 300-400. i think thats what ill do is talk to an installer and see what they recomend thanks both of you were helpful
go on craigslist.com and search subs in your area you live in. most likely there will be alot of stuff. dont go to the store to buy them. thats alot of money to waste.300-400 will get you alot of nice used things. but make sure you them test it out.
