I know it sounds stupid but hear me out. I have a EJ8 and everything in it is great except for a little oil leak. The problem is that it has a salvage title so I can only assume it was in an accident. The sides of it (the space between the taillights and the doors) were bondo'd and I'm sure it was a while back (and not a very good job might I add) because it's cracking....horribly the bondo is about a cm thick. So I was thinking either I could take it to a shop and get it bondo'd and pay an insane amount of money and risk having the same thing happen again...or I could buy a chassis and just take everything off of my car and put it on the new chassis. Am I crazy? would anyone out there agree that this is a legitimate alternative? I could do all the work myself but I'd be without a car for about a week....so what do you think?

 

So what you mean is just taking your parts and putting them on another car.

Sure, people do that on occasion, particularly when a car is totaled. I see nothing different here.

 

well in a nutshell yes. I would just have to buy someones parted out car....

 

Look for "shells" being sold on Craig's List. That's a car lacking the motor, tranny, etc. They seem to run well under $1000 where I live. Not sure how you re-register the car, but it is something to research at some point. I am sure many folks here have done it many times. This is swap city.
