Default COIL ON PLUG!!! PLUGS & MISFIRE/IGNITION ISSUE!!!

im currently running aem pencil coils with NGK bkr9eix but i bought a set of the honda cbr coils for back up coils. the cbr coils need plugs with removable tops. what plugs do run with these coils?

Also has anybody had any misfiring or ignition problems running the epm with the pencil coils? i kept having a cut at 5500 under load. it only does it in 3rd and 4th gear under load. it revs out clean in neutral. i had noticed the pencil coils had popped off the top of the plug a little. i think that might have been the problem for the mis or ignition problem. im gonna put some foam on top of the coils and use my plug wire cover to hold them down.

but i got these cbr coils for a back up plan while at the dyno saturday so i need the "RITE" plug for these cbr coils.

What ign box are you using? Does it do it on the dyno or just when drag racing the car?

I had the same issue but mine was wierd. I could do pull after pull on the dyno and it was clean as could be. I would go to the track and make a pass and about half way down the car would start to break up. Mine dropped one cylinder and I sent the coil back to AEM and they sent me a new one. They tested the coil for days and it did not reproduce the problem. I put the new coil in went to the track and had the same issue.

I know AEM is looking into the issue I had. I thought it might be because I am running the M&W Pro 4 Drag box and they were not using that box to test the coil I sent back. I know they ordered that M&W box to test the coil to try and reproduce the same enviroment as my car. I got so busy with work and did not have a chance to follow up with them. I will do that next week after SEMA is over.

We have had excellent experiences with the AEM COP on n/a and boosted applications. I would love to help you solve this issue.

Send in your calibration to me at lab@bisimoto.com

...that would be a great start. You have an excellent system, and EMS!

Where did you find them for that price? That is super cheap.

Autolite 3922 is a NGK heat range 7 equivalent with removable tips and are super cheap...like 2~3.00 a plug.

actually i headed to the parts store to get the 3922 but they were not removable tops. the 3923 had the removable top but im not sure of the heat range. im gonna try them on the dyno 2morow if i still have problems with the aem coils.

well come to find out i had my dwell setting on" all cdi settings" for the aem pencil coils. the car would only make 605whp@24psi... anytime we tried to up the boost it would sem to flatline not really break up or misfire but more like it was blowing out the spark... so we decided to go to plan "B". put in the cbr coils!! while pulling out the aem pencils coils they were hot as hell!!! "OVERHEATED"! checked the dwell settings in the aem and the had a CBR 600 F4 COIL SETTING. selected that and bam!!! first pull made 800whp on the button. i also went back aftewards in the dwell setup wizard and noticed it had HONDA C.O.P. 00-UP. i think when it was on all cdi settings it was overheating the coil and we could have ran it on the honda coil on plug setting for the aem coils. anyway i ended up making 857whp and ran out of time, gonna go back this week should make over 900. aem told me too run it on all cdi settings and also others on the forums. so just a heads up on the coil on plug setup up with the aem, epm, and coil setup!!!
MAY MY HEADACHES BRING SOMEONE ELSE HAPPINESS WITH THIS THREAD!!

The COP dwell setting is not correct for that application, and neither is the CBR coil dwell if you're using a CDI box.

Glad you got it worked out, but i think there's something else going on.

When it ended up working, was it with the cbr coils or the aem coils? Still with the aem cdi box, right?

And don't waste your time and motor putting it back on the dyno trying to make a number, get it on the track! Unless you're running 9.30's, you don't need to wear the parts out trying to make more power.
