What is a reasonable price for a B16A2 engine rebuild?

I have seen $4000 dollars at some places, although that includes blueprinting and head work.

There is nothing really wrong with the engine. It burns a little oil.

I was thinking that since I need a new timing belt I might want to have the engine rebuilt at the same time.

Did he rebuild it himself, or is that what a shop charged him to do the rebuild?

I am too afraid to try it myself.

I did some checking around on the web and found you can get a whole rebuilt engine for about 2000 dollars. So that 4000 dollars for the rebuild alone is really expensive.

I suppose they are charging for all the blueprinting and head work.

All I really want is new pistons, bearings, rings, timing belt, water pump, and oil pump.

I have seen rebuild kits with these parts for 500 or 600 dollars. I wonder how much the labor would cost.

Rebuilt my d16z6 and it cost $1200 including machining the block, hot tanking, and a comp cam.
