Overheating 1994 Civic LSi auto hatchback
I have just taken on a 1994 LSi 2 door and when I got it I noticed someone had added a switch to the dashboard. When I enquired I was told that this was to turn on/off the radiator fan because it would not turn itself on. Okay, so, here's the problem, even with the fan going constantly the engine overheats after about 1/4 mile and just doing the 3 mile run to work down an open road involves 3 - 4 stops to allow the temp gauge to drop.
Any suggestions as to where to start with this would be great. I'm getting a replacement thermostat so I can disengage the remote switch they added to the fan but doubt if that will help since even withthe fan on she overheats.

you could also check you temp switch on the thermostat housing and the cooling fan relay which is in the under hood fuse box next to the battery. sounds like one of those two went bad so they bypassed with a switch. but the overheating is probably caused by the thermostat. just don't drive it too much with it overheating cause you'll blow the head gasket.
