Default car wont start, no compression.. help?

my car has been running great since i bought it with no smoke or anything ran real strong for a b16 then i went to start it yesterday and it cranked like it was about to start then just lost all compression and started turning over almost like it had no spark plugs in it.. i checked for spark and fuel and was getting both then did a compression test and the numbers r all over the place #1 was at like 40 and #2 was at like 120 and #3 at 90 and # at 70, i think its the headgasket but would like more opinions b4 i pull it apart. i was wondering if maybe the head wasnt torqued down enough.. was thinking the head might b loose but why would it do it on start up and run so strong b4 that? help please?

ok so i just went out to finally mess around with the car and put the plugs back in to c if it would start and it fired right up, then did a compression test again and 1-120 2-125 3-130 4-125 now theyre all pretty close but theyre very low arent they? why would it have no compression then a few days later start right up? really wierd! any ideas?

no not at all! im gonna do a valve adjustment today but its still so wierd to me why it did it in the first place, would a drastic weather change have anything to do with it cuz its just started getting really cold here? now it doesnt smoke it runs perfect i checked the torque on the head and everything is perfect, timing is perfect... i dont get it

i highly doubt the weather would make any difference. but wierder **** has happened. i would check ur valve lash. a b16a2 should be .006 -.007 on the intake cam and .007 - .008 on the exhaust cam.

I'm having this same issue with 95Honda Civic, D16Z6 engine. Compression as follows. #1-54,#2-78,#3-59,#4-120. Spark and fuel is fine. Timing belt in tact. I was experiencing a loss of power the previous day then on the next day I started it up, got down the block and engine just died. You can hear a miss when engine is turning over. You'd think with low compression, spark and fuel it would still fire but I get nothing. Any help or ideas appreciated.
