Default 92 civic dx, Idle Bounces.

I just figured out why my car was backfireing and running super richard and doing 12MPG Street. I had my vaccume lines off and tps and map wasn't connected. I connected everything correctly and now while its in park it revs up and down constantly. and in Drive it stays at a constant rpm. only at idle in park it idles weird. and yes, I searched everywhere but everyone else's problem was the IACV and mine is new so i dont believe thats the problem. its a D15b7 with a firewall mounted MAP.

You could've connected the map and tps backwards possibly, make sure the tps is adjusted correctly, vaccuum leaks will cause a surging idle too. Take your intake off and cover the hole that goes to the iacv on the inside the throttle body and if it stops then thats your problem. The fitv may need cleaned as well. Hit the search for the fitv theres a nice write up on how to clean it

Their connected right the tps and map sensors. I made sure of that. but yea, it could posiblly be another vaccume leak!

This sounds weird to me but i found a vacuume hose laying around and i followed it back the the rack and pinion it connects on the boot of the rack in pinion what is this ?

Im not familiar with one that connects to the rack and pinion, however they're are a few that connect to the evap canister above the rack n pinion.

And sometimes my car when i start it when its cold it runs soooo Rich just like before without the tps and map sensors working and after a minute or me flooring it once to 6k it runs perfect. and driving at quarter throttle from a light it shutters and will turn off. if i give it half throttle it goes good but to fast but the only way i can accelerate. does this sound like bad spark plugs???

the one hose goes to a purge valve on the manifold and the other goes right on top of the throttle body. Sounds like you might want to see if your tps is calibrated/adjusted correctly

yea, your right i have them right. But the Tps could be bad or need to be adjusted. but why would it still run rich sometimes. like when i start it and it dumps fuel into the engine and the plugs aren't sparking all of it i have to floor it to get it to run right and get rid of the extra fuel. and now it just started at a light if i give it a quarter throttle it try in turn off and sputters. does this sound like bad plugs.

This sounds exactly like what my car was doing.

I replaced a lot of stuff... but none of it really seemed to help my idle.

In one of the above posts I saw someone say to check your FITV. PLEASE DO THAT. I did it and now my works perfectly fine. If the vacuum from your FITV isn't working properly, then everything's gonna act weird just like you're saying.

The Honda-Tech write-up is good, but it doesn't take you all the way through the process. The one at SuperHonda is great.
