civic auto to stick problem
Any help would be great
Im going to tell all so no miss info
I have a 1997 honda civic ex sohc d series vtec, it was an auto I had it changed to a stick and had a turbo added in 1998, I always had a check engine for the auto tranny not being there but that was the only one I EVER had, so I took the blub out just so I would not have to see it, I took the turbo out in 2000, to have it custom painted, the question I have is the car wont pass inspection with the check engine (im trying to do this legit) so I went out and bought a ecu from a 1996 ex stick I put the computer in and when I start the car all it good for a few seconds then the car starts to putt while running like a miss fire and at that exect moment the check engine light comes on I dont have a scanner so Im sorry but I dont know what the code but its real light in the beging and the get worse after a few seconds at its worse the idle bounces around llike 3-5 hundered rpms, when I took out the newer ecu and put the orginal in the idle has no problem, Is there some else I need to change, I dont want to take this to a dealer or a local shop with out having a basic idea of what needs to be done I dont want to get raped on the laber. Someone told me to get a computer from a 96-97 dx stick I wont have vtec but the idle will be fine will that work just for inspection purposes, I dont want to keep swaping out ecu's so I would like to use the 96 ecu and fix or make the necessary changes to get this done right.
thanks again
Andrew

your problem is the 2 wire IACV. i guarantee it. the auto civics use a 3 wire iacv. you need to get a manual intake manifold and put on the 2 wire iacv and rewire it at the ecu, i guarantee it will fix your problems.

Exactly this. It may be favorable to get the throttle body as well off a manual, otherwise there'll be an IACV hole. Could probably fix for $50 or so. I'm unsure if you just re-wire the 3-wire or if you have to get a 2-wire IACV however.

i have tried personally to rewire a 3 wire iacv and i didn't have any luck. i didn't try hard enough though. i would suggest getting maybe a oem y8 mani with the throttle body and put that in and a 2 wire iacv
i just cant get a 2 wire iac valve install it and rewire it at the ecu, im guessing that valve is different it is not just the plug, it wont go into the intake manifold that I have

The 3 wire is rotary and the 2 wire is linear IACV(the way they function). You have to have the right IACV and matching ECU for whatever you are doing.
I had a JDM Y8 intake I used for my conversion, but it still had the rotary IACV on the throttle body but the mounting area for the 2 wire IACV was there on the intake and had been machined flat but had no mounting holes, but the passage for it inside the manifold was there.
I drilled and threaded 2 holes to mount the IACV and one hole into the passage. Pics are under posts by rkcarguySI on the D-series.org forum but it's been a couple years. The IACV I got for $5 and I had about $10 into buying the drills and tap at the hardware store.

Judging by the images, I would say not, assuming this listing is correct (couldn't find any other pictures of a y5 manifold).
http://i12.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/3a/54/2d92_1.JPG <-- See the bolt near the throttle body opening, where the flat plate is? That's where the 2-wire IACV would go, but it is unfortunately blocked off much like the the D16Y8 automatic manifold.
I'm going to search more to verify that this is in fact the correct manifold I'm looking at though.
EDIT: Actually it may work, apparently HXs do have a 2-wire IACV in manual form. Just be sure the manifold you get is from a manual transmission Civic HX.

i went to a local shop and they told me to follow this diagram, at this web site and thats it. http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/wiring/...-98_a-plug.jpg. Is it that simple?
