Unable to Lock back left door of a Honda Accord 2002
Hello everyone,
So, I probably will need to remove the door panel and take a look at the rods to see if there is any obstruction. Problem is, I do not know how to remove it. I did a good search, but was unable to find any diagrams. And I got conflicting opinions about the number of screws. Some say you only need to unscrew two screws, others say you must remove 6.

Okay man, I have a 2000 accord LX sedan. I recently fixed the same problem on my car.
There are two screws you have to remove. One where the handle is to open the door. There is small cover over it so take a flat head screw driver, place some scotch tape over the end of it (so as not to scratch the plastic) and use that to remove the cover. Then use a philips head to unscrew. The second screw is in the area where the handle is, to the left of the window switch. Again, there is a cover over it so remove as stated above and unscrew.
Then you take the flat head with the scotch tape over it and put it between the door panel and the door itself starting on the upper left side. Pull the two apart using the screwdriver for leverage and squeeze your fingers in between and pull. You should hear a snap which is the plastic clip coming out. There are about 5 or 6 along the edge of the door panel so keep pulling all along the edge until you go all the way around. Then grasp the panel on both sides and life up and towards you.
Once the door panel is off you can push the interior door handle through the panel itself. Push the window switch button through the panel as well so the panel will be completely detached from the door.
Next go to drivers side door and use the master lock button and observe whether the actuator is engaging the rods. If it isnt then theres your problem. The actuator is the white piece that is screwed to the middle of the door with two gold screws. Youll see it once the panel is removed. One rod is passing through the top right portion of it. With our model accords that is a common problem. I replaced the actuator on my door and now its working fine.
Thats what I think it may be anyway. Good Luck!

Was it the right rear door or left rear door? If its the right rear door I can send you the actuator rod with the black piece b/c thats what I just replaced on my car. I took those pieces off the old one and have it now. You dont need to replace the whole unit just those pieces that broke since youve stated that the actuator works. If you decide to go to the dealership they may not have those pieces since they come when you purchase the actuator itself.
As for the fork looking thing, this is where you find out that the junkyard or Pic a Part is your best friend. Go to your local dealership, show them the piece and find out how much it is. The price may not be too bad, and it might cost you less when you factor in time and gas spent going to the junk yards. See what works for you and keep us posted on the progress!!

Hey man, just a thought, you may want to get youself one of two, or both, Honda accord manuals. Either a Chilton or a Haynes. I got both from ebay from 20 bucks shipped. They explain with diagrams how to disasseble ANYTHING on you car. Make sure that is for 98-02 accords

They show you the actuator disconnected. That black thing is the left over of the plastic screw that was connecting the actuator to the rod. Around it, there are a few plastic rings. Obviously, I need to remove the left overs from the old rod before connecting it to the new rod. The question is, do I also remove the black plastic rings, so that the end result is simply a while plastic whole with nothing in?
And what is the best way to go about removing the left overs?
(I may sound very meticulous(or even pedantic!) in my questions, but thats simply because I never dealt with hardware before! In fact, I mainly deal in software (majoring in software engineering at school)...so, i am really afraid of breaking things...the nice thing about software is backup
...not available in hardware, alas

I really dont know what plastic rings youre refering to. If youre refering to the black plastic thats visible in the picture, yeah you should remove that. There is a blue rod and a black piece thats held together with a gold pin. It looks like thats the remnants of the black piece. So it appears that the black piece and the blue have been broken.
As for the manuals I was refering to, no the Chiltons and Haynes manuals are seperate from the car manual that comes with the automobile. Theyre very detailed manuals on every working of the car.
I'll be sending you an email either later tonight or tomorrow.
