HELP.....With my tranny problem, in my EK Hatch..................
Ok I have a 99 Hatch. When I had it running it sounded like something grinding, coming from the tranny, at first it sounded like it may the bolts on the clutch or flywheel are loose or it came apart. But as I listened closer it sounded as if it were coming from the back side of the tranny. I am now in the process of pulling the tranny, it is a stock D16y7 engine and tranny. Anyone have any idea what else may be wrong. Also the sound stops when I hold the cluthc pedal down. Thanks
sounds like a bearing in your countershaft is bad...but sohc trannys are pretty cheap so just replace it with an ex unit.
but seriously, i had same problem. It was my Input bearing. I got it replaced and the terrible grinding sound is now gone.
I didn't do it myself as i don't have the time or the know how (or an extra car to drive while i learn) so if you have any technical questions you are out of luck with me. $15 part, $500 labour.

hahaha That's funny.
Input bearing, dead giveaway is it stops when you press in the clutch. From my understanding it's fairly common in the d16 transmissions. Mine has been doing it for at least 20k miles (it was doing it when I bought it) and no issues. The owner of the spare motor and transmission I bought said his transmission was also doing it. I'll just replace it when I need to swap the motor, no point in doing it sooner.
