Default how to remove rusted battery nut?

WD-40 isn't working and I'm stripping the nut just trying to get it to budge on the negative battery terminal .. any suggestions. Oh there is a lot of corrosion, any good solvents for that?

Hammer on the next smallest socket. that will get it off, good luck getting it out of the socket though.

If it's that corroded, just grab it with a pair of visegrips - twist the thing off and replace it with a new bolt/nut.
You won't be able to reuse it anyway.

either use a socket you intend on losing or one with a lifetime warranty you dont car about cracking in half

lol....Time to look into buying some better sockets.

I have done the next size down socket & hammer procedure more times than i can remember. I have yet to split the side out of one of my sockets... : knocks on wood :

Although for something as light weight as the battery terminals. I think I would opt for P_Adams suggestion. There is no need to crash and bang on your battery if a pair of vise grips will work.

He could also use a stripped nut extractor. Snap on sells them, and I am sure it can be found at harbor freight if you are wanting one for cheaper.

i've heard baking soda works good for cleaning the corrosion but i just use a wire brush to clean it. also auto zone sells this stuff to put on the terminals for better connection i think that would help too
