Quick SRS question, and yes I searched
So I removed my dash to add some soundproofing materail to the firewall and the only SRS connector I had to disconnect was the passenger one, which I plugged back in when everything went back in. The negative battery terminal was off during the entire process but I forgot to take the positive one off. Everything works except the srs light is on. I am assuming this is a simple reset problem, but the only reset protocol I found here on HT was for a 6G accord. Will that work for my EG or is it different? Thanks again as always

ya i have this same problem, although it was like this when I bought it and the car has never been in an accident so idk. I put a new ECU in the car (not because of this) and the light is still on.
i also have the same problem... if anyone knows please share with us....
i ended up unplugging the srs in the guage cluster b/c i got sick of looking at it...

What problems did you have with the ECU? I ve been having problems with my charging system, not kicking in the Alternator to charge the battery, getting the flickering lights, yes I tested the alternator and battery twice and replaced grounds...just wondering if you expereinced similar problems?
Also how much was the ECU and did it require the dealer to program or replace?
Mine is 99 Civic EX

To OP: The instructions are the same as the 6g Accord using the MES connector and a paper clip.

Definitely not the driver airbag. I just replaced my steering wheel from stock to JDM ITR. Unhooked the negative terminal before, and when I put everything back no SRS light.

I don't know what you're talking about.
I didn't say anything about a driver airbag.
I will say that we removed my stock wheel from my '98 Civic after it was stolen (had to replace the column). After we put it all back together the SRS light came on. We did not touch the passenger airbag, just the driver's wheel. We reset it and it's been good since.

Just figured it out. BlueIntegraBoy, when you replaced your wheel you didn't turn the car on after you removed the stock wheel, right?
This is the OP's first thread:

I think he might have driven (or started the car) with the airbag not installed.

Nope, negative terminal was off the whole time.

I never started tjhe car with the srs connection unplugged on the passneger side. The negative terminal was unplugged the whole time but the positive terminal was still connected. I am woried that I shorted something by making contact with something else, but that may not make any sense. I don't know. I will try the resetting procedure when I get home tonight or whenever I get a chance. Thanks guys!

Well since the negative terminal is the ground then touching something to the body would have completed the circuit (since the positive terminal was still hooked up). Am I misinterpreting something? I don't know.

yea but since the negative terminal is the ground and it was disconnected you cant complete the circuit. you negative terminal is connected to the chasi and makes the "ground"...
ahhhh ok. thanks mang. actually i looked at my last post and I should have figured it out by that alone. oh well. now I'm looking for some wire to shove in the srs plug to reset it. I had some 12 guage wiring that was too thick.
All reset!! 12 guage wire was too thick. I took some speaker wire (braided) and soldered it to strengthen the part that was going into the two holes (a pair of the tightest holes I have ever dealt with). That failed too! I then said F this and rammed two finishing nails I had lying around into each hole and then used some wire to connect the two heads by simply placing it on the nails and then removing it while watching the SRS light. Done. Thanks again guys.

Now you'll have to reset the SRS System.
Under dash there should be a yellow plug. I usually take two long wires and use them to close and open the connection when needed.... (edit: bent paperclip is the most popular)
1st step in erasing the memory is to turn the ignition off and connect the SCS Service connector to the MES Plug,
2nd Turn Ignition on. SRS indicator light will come on for about 6 seconds then go off.
3rd Disconnect SCS service connector for MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS indicator light goes off. SRS indicator light will come on again.
4th Reconnect SCS service connector the MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS light comes on. SRS indicator light will go off.
5th Disconnect SCS service connector from MES connector within 4 seconds. SRS indicator light will indicate that memory is erased by blinking 2 times.
6th Turn ignition off, and wait 10 seconds. Start vehicle like normal and light should come on and go out like normal. You have reset your SRS light. Done
