Default VTEC PROBLEMS ON LS/VTEC...HELP PLEASE.

so i just recently swapped an ls vtec into my 91 hf. i bought the hasport ef subharness...wired up everything, except my knock sensor...i have a stock b16 ecu

my speed sensor does not work, my car reads the rpm's but it doesnt read the speed

could it be that my ecu isnt getting the speed signal it needs for vtec to engange, if it even needs that speed signal.

i checked my oil level and its all good

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not a honda person so take with a grain of salt but wouldn't you need an ECU from a car with VTEC for VTEC to work? YOu said you're using your stock b16 ecu but didn't say if it had VTEC before.

But again I know nothing. But I'm pretty sure VTEC is controled from the ECU so you either need a VTEC computer or a chip to program a non VTEC computer to be compatible.

EDIT: B16 are all vtec my bad....

you have to tap a knock sensor unless you have the means to disable it in the ecu. You didn't say whether you had a VSS or cable driven speedo. Most likely a cable driven one, so make sure that its plugged on to the tranny.

in order for vtec to engage the computer needs a signal from the knock sensor. i heard that you could ground out the sensor wires to the chassis. but there is a spot to add the knock sensor on a b18a/b. the top bolt for the alternator bracket directly below the head, you remove and tap threads to fit the knock sensor.

Default Ls vtec

The speed sensor causes the vtec not to work. Well I also have a question to about the ls vtec, I have an ls vtec as well. My speed sensor doesn't work either, but around 5,000 it sounds like it is around redline. I would think that the ls vtec can go to 7,000. I don't if the vtec is not working why it won't redline at 7,000 rpm.
