ECU cause Fuel Level Sensor to Malfunction?

Default ECU cause Fuel Level Sensor to Malfunction?
Is it possible for an ECU to cause the fuel gauge to misread? or is it only possible from a bad gauge cluster, actual sensor, or leak?
