When i take sharp turns my fuel gauge will move because the fuel is moving away, or towards the sensor. The sensor is by the fuel pump.

i know what you guys are talking about but my situation is different.
the needle moves everytime i step on the pedal and this is on normal straighaway roads and i know that im slowy losing gas.
also my exhaust is leaking from the cat. could that be the problem?

Not necessarily. My O2 sensor has been shot since 5 months ago yet there is no CEL. Timing is to spec, all new fuel filter, plugs, wires, etc...etc...etc...from Honda yet my gas mileage on a bone stock D15B7 is at 200-250 per tank. If your gas mileage drops all of a sudden and is totally in the crapper, it's most likely your O2 snesor if nothing else was tampered with or touched (timing).

lol. if i down shift and accerlate hard on the freeway, my fuel gauge dips like 1/4 tank, then goes back to the previous position when i'm cruising. i thought civic fuel gauges were just ghetto like that.

leaky tank could cause pressure lose which might affect the sensor. I actually don't know if they use a sensor or a float in honda's but either way you have much more serious problems than you gauge moving, you should get the exhaust leak fixed before you get a fire.
