im more interested in the evolution kit because ive read that it has better hood clearance, i think 3 inch's is a little bit too much of a gap for a street car.. if anyone here is using a Evolution H2B kit on a crx or ef could you please elaborate on your hood an ground clearance experience? .. i would love to be able to use a stock hood, an only space it no more then an inch if possible.. pictures would be the best if you have any to post.. please state what kit you are using, which mounts, and what you did to make it fit the way you did.. thank you

 

you should post this in the hybrid section you'll have better response. but from what i saw at boti at the evolution booth. it had better hood clearance than the QSD kit. but sorry i dont have pic's.

 

The Evolution EF H2B kit was just released a couple months ago. The full kit includes the H2B flywheel, adapter plate, mounts all around, alternator relocating bracket, hardware, pulley, and a few more assorted brackets, etc.

As far as hood clearance, that wasnt the focus on this kit. The focus was more on ground clearance which did sacrifice hood placement.

I dont have the new final pics of the running EF uploaded, but here's some that I have from 6 months ago during the early stages of R&D with the EF kit.





This kit will either require raising the hood or a new hood with a scoop(this is in the works as we speak).

 

yea i dont mind cutting out the webbings an spacing it an inch or so.. but on QSD's website they require a 3 inch gap for crx, an they showed pictures of crx's with the gap an it is a huge gap for a street car that i would like to try an keep the h2b a secret on the street, but with a gap that big all they have to do is look through it

 

any hacking of the framerail on this kit?

 

no way you're going to make an EF look stealth with an H22. hehe. I mean you possibly can, but it cant be lowered at all. Which is a major factor since most honda guys are lowering the car even just a little bit.

The EF kit comes with a pulley so it clears the framerail. but its designed without using the balance shafts.

 

The QSD guys aren't lying about the hood clearance for the H2B EF's. My valvecover literally pokes a couple inches outside of my hood.

If you want good ground clearance with this setup, you're engine is going to pop through the hood, period. It's just the way the engine ends up tilting. I love the QSD ground clearance, but even then, my car isn't dumped, and I've beat my downpipe and oil pump up pretty good. Plus, the H22 is a tall engine to begin with.


If you want to make a sleeper, just turbo a D or a B and paint the intercooler black.

Yea, i dont expect the hood to be closed like a b series swap but i dont want a HUGE gap.. i dont know, i mean i still got research to do, im sure i can figure something out.. i dont have a problem with using spacers but i think more then like 1.5 inchs is too much.. but thats just me.. maybe i can get someone to make my stock hood have a little bit of a hump in it an then space it an inch or so..

edit: what hits the most the intake manifold or the valve cover?... can any aftermarket intake manifolds be used in the crx chassis without bangin the fkkk out of the firewall?

The entire valve cover and the stock dual runner intake manifold hits. Seriously, I tried an SiR style CF hood with over 1.5" of spacers and it still didn't close. You're engine is going to stick significantly far out of the hood with the QSD kit.

i kind of like that hood haha.. i mean its a dead give away theres a big bad motor under there lol.. yea im leaning more towards the evolution kit over the QSD but im sure if the evolution kit is a little better for hood clearance like they say it is, im sure its going to have to still be spaced.. but im kind of to the point like w/e im just gonna do it an see how it works out an just space it, fabricate a hood like you, or get a sir hood an space it..

 

A hood to clear the Evolution H2B EF kit is in the works. The final EVO EF kit was just completed and we're working to get the production hood finalized and ready for sale by end of this year.

I wouldn't make another one unless it was for myself, and I can't really sell it because then I'm forced to make another one. It wasn't that it was expensive, it was just time consuming and a pain in the dick.

If the EVO kit is any better for hood clearance, I'm left to assume that you're sacrificing ground clearance, unless the engine is just tilted a different way. So if you have adjustable suspension, dial it up. I've already beat my oil pan and downpipe all to hell and I'm only lowered a couple inches. Dumped is 100% out of the question.
