Default Resurfaced B16a head, Ready to be put all back together just a few ?'s!

Thanks for taking a look in my Thread. As you can tell from the title its something to do about my engine. Well I drive a 94 Honda Del Sol, It has b16a3 DOHC Vtec in it, and I blew the head gasket. I took it all apart with a friends help and took the head to get compression checked and resurfaced. Came back no cracks thank god

So I bought The whole complete Head Gasket Set, and obviously the Timing Belt/Water Pump. Even got new Valve Stem Seals in the head. So my question for you is.

I wanna put this all back together, but this is my first actual Honda engine Ive worked on. And I read a lot about them. I just don't wanna take the chance of over tq'ing the head studs or nothing in that matter to even mess stuff up. I see a lot of threads with people saying they over torqued and basically blew a brand new head gasket, I don't wanna be that guy. Esp after buying all these parts and so for. So would you suggest me to do this myself? I am mechanically inclined, I know I could do this. But could anyone give me specs on tq'ing the head bolts to the right amount of lbs. And getting the timing back down! And just anything that will make this much easier for me!

I appreciate it a lot! Thanks!

Cheers!

Ok here's what I found...

Tightening order.
9,5,1,3,7 <-------Intake
8,4,2,6,10 <------Exhaust

Torque in Steps: 22ft-lbs (264in-lbs), then to 61ft-lbs (732in-lbs)

hey man I got it, Thanks. It has some very nice info in it!
Just wondering tho to make sure I do this correctly.

so I start with the 1 and tq it to 22ft-lbs (264in-lbs), then do 2, then 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 10.

then go back to 1. tq it to 61ft-lbs (732in-lbs) then 2, 3, 4, and ect?

Is that how its suppose to be done?

Thanks a lot!

I did my headgasket replacement a while back. I didn't use copper spray because everyone told me not to... well that fu*ked me. I should have used it.

Copper spray is sprayed onto the headgasket before you put it on the engine. It helps seal minor gaps or scratches and helps you avoid big f'n messes of oil leaking everywhere.... good luck.

My advice to you is use it. and make sure everything is done right...

I've heard that its important to use copper spray. I didnt use it when I built my ls/vtec and I had no problems. But why not be safe and use it.

Hey guys I just got the head on and did all of it, everything went smooth but i ran into a few problems, nothing major.

one thing is since I got the head shaved. and the cam and timing belt covers not lining up im thinking because since the head was shaved its obviously not gonna be the same lol. if this happened to anyone else what could I do to fix this?

Tomorrow I will change the oil and antifreeze,. then double check everything then fire up time!

thanks for every ones help!

Cheers!

Hey quick question, I'm gonna need new header nuts, currently mine went the hell and back but they look pretty much different then any other nut. They seem like there some type of lock nuts. I don't know where I would find these. Or could i just use any other nut that fits!

Thanks

Yeah, I would just go down to the junkyard and get some, unless you have a lot of nuts sitting around.. You can use about any kind of nut that fits it though, better to have those though ...

agreed, I'm not sure why they are shaped the way they are, but the manufacturer didn't make them that way for no reason. Better safe than sorry i guess

did you make sure all the timing marks are lined up. your covers should all line back up. when the machine shop resurfaces the head, they only take off about .005 in. thats very minimal to cause a cover not to line up.

OP

just get a haynes manual.

it'll have all your torque specs and sequences.

as well as installing the cams properly and setting valve lash
