Default head gasket

I am thinking about fixing my head gasket very shortly. Is there any write ups on how to do it the right way? How long should it take someone that has some what good mechanic skills? Should I do anything with the head or just replace the gasket? How much should it be to have the head rebuilt or machined? Is it cheaper to buy a new head?

heres my take on head gaskets
-take it apart and label things you take off (makes reassembly easy)
-take the head to machine shop valve job and new valve stem seals are a must and the head surface needs to be machined
-better to just rebuild yours so you know you got a good one
-then put it back together and torque everthing to specs
a haynes or chilton manual can be your freind here
also this would be a good time to change the timing belt and water pump IMO

itll probably take you a long day to do it. you need to have your head resurfaced at a machine shop, i just had them revalve it for a total of like 170 or something like that. and x2 what the other guy said.

All is good, except never ever trust a haynes or chilton. I have seen too many things that were incorrect on them. Helms of GTFO
