I dont care if it's not a speed racer, or if it'll even beat your average minivan. I just want a nice, quiet, quality car that gets great gas mileage.

Key word gas mileage. I drive a LOT, and it's constant stop and go.. so I need something great on gas.

Will this dx fit the bill?

Oh and it's a 5speed 2door.

it will fit the bill perfectly. good looking car, great gas and very reliable. the eg (92-95) feels the best as far as sitting in and driving out of any car i have owned. they are great cars.

 

pretty much every stock civic will give you great gas mileage. make sure to give it a tune up though

 

I've done some research, and owners claim a solid 32mpg city out of them. The guy selling me it says he gets high 20's out of it.. but he might not even calculate it, drive it heavy footed or it may just need a tuneup.

So is his estimate right, or is it closer to 30+?

The only problem with this car is, it has a gay black wing. I mean, it's a subtle wing.. nothing too ricetastic, but I LOVE the look of that body style w/out wings.. they look sexy for some reason. So i'm gonna take the wing off, get some wheels and black headlamps/tail lights, some interior stuff and tint and probably call it a day.

What is the vtec motor in these rated at? And what size motor is it? I cant seem to find a straight answer..
all I know is it's a b16

Only a few grand.. rather cheap.

But i THINK it's a stock b16, but i could be wrong. It has a cai, headers, exhaust and maybe a few other things. Nothing major though I dont think

 

Check the numbers and letters stamped on the front of the engine block a little below the distributor and see if it is a stock engine. You may have to wipe off a bit of grease and dirt there covering the numbers. The following site has the engine codes: http://www.superhonda.com/tech....html. So a 94 Civic DX should have a D15B7. If it is a D16 swap engine, it is bigger, and generally this means worse mileage for Civics, even if it is a newer engine.

Try your local craigslist.org for some great deals on cars. You ought to buy http://www.autocheck.com for about $25 to check titles for tampered odometers, salvage vehicles, etc. over the next month or so.

For fuel economy, you are right to look specifically in the 92-95 range for Civics. From about 89-2000, this range of Civics has the best mileage ratings, per fueleconomy.gov and individual reports there. For best mileage, get one without a/c, with manual transmission, and with cruise control. The DX does not have cruise control.

 

It's a rather nice car.. all I know about it and my limited knowledge with hondas is its a b16 vtec?

i'll ask exactly which motor and report back.

B16 is vtec, and it didn't come stock in a '94 DX. The car should have a D15B7 non vtec single overhead cam in it. B16 is a dual overhead cam engine. 30MPG if its either the stock D15B7, or even a D16Z6 (stock EX/Si engine for '92 - '95 1.6L single overhead cam) wont be a problem. B16 might get a little lower mileage, although considering the power to weight ratio I doubt its as bas as people think. I've gotten a personal best of 41MPG mixed, mostly highway with a '94 Sedan. (JDM D15B Vtec with DX 5 speed tranny) generally though its closer to 38MPG.

With the stock D15B7 and a properly maintained engine (e.g. good OEM ignition wires and plugs and timing properly set), you should do better than 30 mpg in the city with a five-speed. See the individual reports at fueleconomy.gov for this model and year. I get 35-40 mpg with my 93 DX five-speed with mostly city driving and a/c on.

Of course, driving style makes a difference, along with tire pressure.

 

I had a completely stock 92 civic hatch that I got 30 mpg in consistantly, stock sohc engine, non vtec (d15). Then I sold it to my dad and he gets 36 with the Ac on..... its crazy.. He drives like a granny though

 

listen to 94eg8. he is correct.

stock engine in the car you are looking at is a d15b7. that is the only motor that came in the dx for that year and it is not vtec. the d16z6 came in the ex model and that was vtec. both engines being sohc. the d16z6 could have been swapped in, or if it does infact have a b16 engine then that was also swapped in. no civic for that year range came with any b series engine's. unless the car was shipped from japan. but we know that isnt the case. i hope i made that sound simpler to understand.

also, as far as gas milleage.. i have owed civics with all 3 of those engines. my civic dx, with the d15b7 was great on gas. as far as what i got i do not know, but could drive forever. my ex with the d16z6 was also completely great on gas. i didint feel much of a difference between the 2. however the ex did have a bit more power of course. then my civic hatch cx, with a jdm b16a SiRII. this had loads of power and got up to speed so damn fast i even freaked my own dad out (muscle car guy). but yet i never noticed much of a change in the distance i could drive compaired to how much gas i used. they all seem pretty damn compairable.

power ratings...

d15b7 - 102 hp
d16z6 - 125 hp
b16 - anywhere from 150-185 hp (depending on what model b16)

keep in mind these cars are very light weight. makes for even better gas milleage and you feel more of the power they come with. compare that to a neon... good on gas but also a very heavy car.

Hey guys.. thanks a lot for the input. I"m feeling really good about this Civic.

My only problem is, I'd need to sell my modded GS-T to buy it.. I really love my GS-T. Granted, I'm not attached to it.. it's just such a great car and it's so fast, and has the potential to be much faster..

Whats your take on this situation?

Oh and it's either one or the other.. my Land Rover consumes gas like the ***** outta style

Yeah, but don't expect a lot of low end torque. It is will be quick though.

 

i have a basically stock 94 civic dx. Its a great car. Not fast but great gas mileage. In the summer i get about 40MPG highway and 37 City. winter is about 33mpg city and 35 highway. Never had a problem with it until this morning, but that is a clutch issue i believe. Other than than I've had mine for about 4 years and haven't looked back
