some Pilot questions
Greetings hondas dudes and dudettes!
Some questions for the family car we have, a 2003 Honda Pilot. we've had it since it came off the truck, and has 145,000 miles at the moment(and a ton left- my old accord had 155k when sold, the ******* wagon 94 had 178k). anyway, for any other first year owners, a couple questions-
Do any of you have a rattling noise on the passenger side, by the A-pillar it sounds like? they say its normal, and looksed for it when repairing the windows but couldnt find a problem.
also, theres a transmission TSB for the whine- they say to get it flushed to fix it. despite my warning, mom had it done at 133k...killed the valvebody, bye bye trans(followed by honda saying they had to put in a brand new trans, only to use a rebult unit. I raised hell
). anyway, it still has a slight whine to it. is it a common thing on these? it didnt even surface until we had 60k on it last time.
and the last thing- the battery finally bit the dust. but now after after a hjumpstart, or even on occasional normal starts, the engine surges up to 1500rpm, then drops down when in park and neutral. doesnt seem to be hurting, but its frustrating to have these problems sometimes.

Honda V6 auto trannys in general have been shitty between 98-04. My wife has an 05 Pilot and had to have the steering rack repalced at less than 500 miles. Otherwise just minor stuff; tpms, driver seat leather replaced, sunroof leak... all fixed under warranty. For Pilot issues I go to hondapilot.org. Lots of info there.

ahh, gotcha. the trans suprised me. my accord was a hand me down from my sister, and the transmission was almost dead- slammed around, and ran with almost no fluid. a fill up and it worked perfect. Pilots...dead.
maybe its good a sunroof wasnt available in 03! no leaks.

If they looked for a noise it's not normal. They contradicted themselves.
The whine is pretty common in the remmaned trannys, but fortunately it has it's own warranty.
You have a failed IAC valve. It's on the bottom of the throttle body. Pick one up from Honda and you can replace it yourself.
