what is a fitv
the fitv is the fast idle thermo valve. Here is a quick way to check it once the engine is warmed up remove the air intake at the throtle body (TB). Look inside the TB there will be 2 holes with the engine running stick your finger over the bottom hole if you feel vacuum then the fitv is not closing and need removed and repaired or replaced.

This is a grate link if you need to service it. It could also be caused by the iacv (idle air control valve). It just depends on when you are having your problem. If it is all the time then look at the iacv if it only happens after warm up then its more then likely your fitv

The fast idle valve (or fast idle thermo valve) might be broken inside, and if that's the case no amount of adjustment will fix it.
Also if the electronic idle air control valve (IACV) is bad it will throw a check engine light 90% of the time.
What year/make/model is this car?
