It's about 4:40am and I can't sleep because at about 12 noon I will be getting a 97 civic ex sohc. The guy I am buying it from is going to give me the same vtec engine whole cuz he can't keep it so he giving it to me upon purchase. I don't know too much about vtec so I get confused about the obd1,2,0, conversion stuff. And I obviously know that dohc is better then sohc. My question is what are some of the first things that I should do to my vehicle to make the car have better performance..
Next question is about mix matching. Is it possible to put a dohc top on a sohc bottom. I know that obviously sohc has only one cam but is it possible. And the different types of motors are confusing me because I look on forums and on the web and it doesn't explain the difference between the motors. So I am looking for guidance and understanding and help to make a better performance on my car thanks for the help.

No, it is not possible to put a DOHC head onto a SOHC block.

x3 trust me ive done a lot to my single slammer and i love it, lots of mods. but a turbo is the cheapest way to get you 200. You need to keep in mind though that after 200 maybe 220 you need to start upgrading your internals (rods, pistons, etc.).

Honda engines swaps is actually a pretty decent book. But don't expect it to be a definative swap guide. Its really more of an overview, but it does mention some good tips and there are some useful tidbits of information in there that make it well worth having. Also, don't expect to see any K-series swap info for anything other than '01 - '05 civics, which are actually listed as '01 - '03 in the book (book was originally published in '03 if I remember right.)
