F22 Auto Tranny on F23 Engine need help
Hello all,
I have a 02 honda accord se.
My current transmission (AUTO) on my f23 is on its way out.
I have already purchased a new tranny from a F22.
***AT THIS POINT, IM NOT EVEN SURE IF THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC, IT HAS A BLACK VSS PLUG AND A KICKDOWN LEVER***PX0-3 ?
It arrived and I noticed some key differences that I dont know how to tackle
and I want to know where everything goes before I go to put it in. I thank you all
in advance for your help.
Here it goes.
1. The Big Transmission plug.

on the f23

That is not on the F22 tranny. And I dont see a place for it.
I suppose I could take it off my F23 tranny but I just dont see a spot it plugs into the f22 tranny.
2. The lower set of solenoids.

The lower set on the F22 are controlled by only two wires, where as the solenoid set on the f23 tranny have different plugs.

3. Vehicle Speed Sensor a.k.a.The Large Black Plug (3 slots - in, ground, vss out).

My thoughts on this - read somewhere that this plug may only be for a M/T. This tranny also has a kickdown lever. which makes me think it does not have to be hooked up.
other then that my f23 harness has spots for the speed sensors- aditionally there are plugs for things that are on my f23 tranny but not my f22 tranny (another set of solenoids,

and a solenoid with one wire coming from it(blue)(bottom most plug in this pic)

)
i really could use the help bad - I havn't been able to get much help with this issue- so if anyone knows or has done this before i appreciate the help. ty all.

I'm not an auto guru by any stretch. but I think along with your wiring woes you may need the TCU that goes with the F22 transmission. I'm not 100% just figured that the F23 & F22 may have different shift points???
What year is the F22 transmission, is it OBD2 1996+ or OBD1 pre 1996? Your wiring problems may be related to OBD1 vs OBD2? But I'm just guessing, I've never worked on an Automatic. That's why I'll stick with my 5sp. I don't have to worry about wires and solenoids.

I'll be using this post and editing it below for my responses since i only get 5 posts- this will better let me communicate.

Not sure on the exact year - im still waiting to get in touch with this guy again i think its from an f22a i think it can be anywhere from 90'-97' for the f22's therefore the odds of it being odb2 are less- so my guess would be obd 1.
not sure if that would matter for the but if i can find a plug for everything on the f22 tranny it should work in theory.
I will have to 'manually shift' since i will not be hooking up the kickdown lever.
I'm assuming i will be throwing CEL for the tranny - but as long as it functions i could care less.
any ideas for the large plug?

I think GHOST is correct. Ive heard that the TCU and ECU are different in the way they work with each tranny. One difference is that the f22 tranny doesnt let off the fuel between shifts whereas the f23 does for a better shift feel.
Hope that helps some, good luck

hrm- i may have to hit you up on that if I cannot get this one back - i will request my money back and have to ship this thing back- since you know, he sent me something that would not work for my vehicle after i told him everything about it - if things get ugly, at least i used paypal
.
.
You got it. It's not going to work. Get the right transmission for the car. It's not as easy as swapping manual transmissions around. You've got to have the correct TCU wiring harness and ECU to make that transmission work right.
i asked all the right questions to this guy , and he said he had the right tranny for me and it would work. But it is not and it wont. he should do the right thing and pay for it to be sent back to him and refund all my money - sucks that this thing weighs 130 lbs and costs quite a bit to send, but that is not my fault. what do you think?
For what it's worth, I swapped out my f22b1 Auto tranny (97 OBD-II acura CL) for a f22a4 (90-93 accord) and all I had to do was change the soleniods off the old transmission to the F22a4 transmission and it worked.
I used the old torque converter though and I've noticed my RPM's are a little higher than normal. I also noticed that the F22a4 torque converter was bigger by about 1/4" - 1/2"... it's been a while. The reason I used my old torque converter is because the F22a4 one didn't fit my drive plate because it was bigger.

well I got screwed on this deal - and because this wasnt an ebay purchase Paypal will not do anything to help me out. woo - now i have a big peice of metal that wont work in my car!
