repairing cv boot
i believe u can buy a kit at kragen or pepboys or something...
You'll have to replace your boots. Since they're already torn, I'd recommend doing as little driving as possible until the service, or you might end up replacing the entire axle/joint.
The CV boots aren't a tough job, but it does require removal of the axles (kind of a PITA). A shop should charge ~$300 for this service, but the actual cost of parts is only ~$40. I did mine earlier this month when I took everything apart for my new clutch.

it is very easy to do, the only pain is replacing the boot itself- I usually just take it to honda and give the guy 10bucks to reboot them

Do not buy cheap aftermarket stuff. Our OEM boots are designed for to last long. A complete rebuild kit comes with the boots, clips, and clamps. It's not as expensive as you think it may be.
If mine is making a clunking sound in a straight line when I stop. Not clicking in the turns, should I get new axles or just replace the outer boot that is torn?
Can your hear a clicking noise? If you can, replace the whole axle. If you can't, just go to Checkers and get a new boot. It comes with everything you need and it costs only $9. But here a bit of advice. When taking off the old boot, don't cut the clamps. Use a flat head screwdriver and pry the clamp open. It's a whole lot easier to reuse the old clamp than put in the new universal clamps..
I hear a sort of clunking as I come to a stop. It is much worse when I apply the brakes. If I was to get a new axle dont they sell them preassembled w/ lifetime warranties at most autoparts stores? If I replace one axle should I replace the other?
Do yourself a favor and just get a new axle. You can get one for like 60-70 bux with your core at places like Pep-Boys or other atuo stores like those. Take the advice from someone who as changed both boots and axles..axles are easier and better in the long run.
And don't even think about getting one of those speedy/split boots..that's just asking for trouble and it's only a temp fix at the most..very bad idea IMO.

Well according to my mechanic.. If the axle is clicking replace it.. If not, just replace the boot. It's really up to you though. And about the life-time warrenty.. I don't know about you but, I've never heard of such a thing for a refurbished axle. One year I've heard but life-time, I don't know.. As far as what's easier, if you've already taken off the axle already you might as well get a new one if you've got the money. If not, get the boot. But make sure it's not the kind where the boot has a cut on the side and can open and close. You really need to take off the whole boot and clean the bearings (I think that's right).. Anyways, putting on a new boot isn't that hard at all, just make sure you've got someone there to hold it for you when you're working on it.. Good luck..
